Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers are a public statement of what constitutes teacher quality. Among many other important functions, these standards provide an essential guide for practitioners wishing to better understand and improve on their practice, in order to provide effective teaching that will achieve sound learning outcomes for students. These standards form an especially important guide for new graduates.
The standards have been developed for four separate career stages, and have been split into three separate domains of teaching:

- Professional Knowledge (1 & 2)
- Professional Practice (3, 4 & 5)
- Professional Engagement (6 & 7)

- Know the content and how to teach it
- Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
- Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments
- Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning
- Engage in professional learning
- Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
