Professional Development
6.2 Participate in learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and school and/or system priorities.
6.4 Undertake professional learning programs designed to address identified student learning needs.
In 2016 I have attended an amazing number of professional development sessions, with to date nineteen separate entries on my Teachers Registration Board professional development log, many of which have been for 6 hours in duration. In total I have so far undergone 82 hours of training in 2016.
I have attended several workshops and moderation sessions on ASDAN learning packages, which has been necessary as I have delivered ASDAN modules to many of my students this year. I have had training on the social emotional learning program PATHS, as well as in school bullying and character strengths programs, which has also been highly relevant to my practice as I have been responsible for delivering these programs to two different classes.
Other training has been conducted due to identified student learning needs, such as PDs on autism, trauma, augmentative communication and team teach (restraint), focus sessions on literacy and numeracy, and other material regarding high school students, such as feedback to students and a Headspace workshop on youth suicide.
I have myself conducted professional development for the whole school on mindfulness, program specific material for our mindfulness trial groups, and general mindfulness training for all staff. Finally I attended a local area School Cell Conference at a nearby University and was able to meet and work with many other teaching professionals from my working area.
