Proficient Teacher Portfolio
The information contained in my Proficient Teacher Portfolio explains the context of my teaching experiences over the course of my first three years of teaching, including a full year in upper primary, a full year of short term contract and relief teaching often in lower primary, and a full year within an education support urban high school. I am currently still employed at this high school in 2019, and have been given permanency.
This exploration of my teaching work to date specifically examines my growth as a teacher, and demonstrates that I am now performing as an experienced teacher at the proficient level as defined by the AITSL teaching standards. For more information on the details of these standards, please refer to the first page of my Proficient Teacher Portfolio. To gain full registration I am also required to have taught for at least 100 days in 5 years, currently I estimate I have taught over 500 days.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far as a teacher. The experiences I have been lucky enough to have, and the relationships I have been privileged to share have been extremely rewarding, even humbling. I have certainly experienced much personal growth as well during this time, and fulfilling a role with such an emphasis on responsibility has made me a stronger person. For this I am extremely grateful and I will do my utmost to bring this appreciative attitude to my future teaching.
The way I have structured my portfolio is by examining specific roles or teaching experiences that I have had over the course of my career, which have been organised by specific year. Within each page I explore the context of the situation discussed, my actions as a teacher, and the outcomes generated. I include annotated evidence to clearly show how I have performed as a proficient teacher in these situations, according to several highlighted individual standard descriptors. To supplement this, I have provided a proficient descriptors checklist, a standards evidence map, and a reference page.
Finally I have provided a number of reflective journal entries to demonstrate some of own my thoughts following teaching and learning experiences. It is my intention to allow this website to grow beyond this portfolio, to serve as a continual point of inspiration, reflection and improvement on my practice as I continue my journey as a teacher. Given time perhaps this website could serve to lead others as they embark on their path in this profession.
